Villagers stage rasta roko & demand immediate arrest of accused in Sangamner acid attack case
Nashik: Residents of Vadgaon Pan village in Sangamner taluka of Ahilyanagar district on Wednesday morning staged a rasta roko protest on Rahuri-Sangamner road for about 20 minutes demanding the immediate arrest of the accused involved in the acid attack on a Std VI girl on Tuesday.Police continued their search for the accused, with officers confirming that despite examining several leads, they have yet to identify the attacker. Additional superintendent of police of Srirampur (Ahilyanagar), Somnath Waghchaure, said, "Ten to twelve different teams, including the local crime branch, cybercrime and forensics, are working on certain clues. The culprit will be arrested soon."In her statement, the girl told the police that she did not suspect anyone from her school or village. According to another officer, the attacker, described as a young man on a motorcycle, approached the girl while she was returning home from school in the afternoon. He allegedly asked her for directions to ‘Jadhav Vasti' before abruptly throwing acid on her face.The girl is undergoing treatment at Pravara Medical Trust in Loni. The police said although the burns were not deep, doctors performed procedures on her facial injuries. Senior officers reiterated that every possible angle was being probed to identify the perpetrator.According to the police, the girl suffered 6% burn injuries.
