Collector warns against diversion of fuel for institutional use
Nashik: District collector Ayush Prasad has banned diversion of fuel from retail petrol pumps for wholesale or institutional use, warning of criminal action and licence cancellation for violators.
The directive comes after an unusual rush at fuel stations on Monday, prompting the administration to clarify that there is no shortage while flagging possible misuse of retail supply channels.
“Strict provisions have been made to prevent malpractices in fuel supply and distribution as per Centre's Motor Spirit and High Speed Diesel Order, 2005, alongside relevant state orders. Act of diverting fuel to insitutional use directly violates established regulatory frameworks designed exclusively for retail distribution,” Prasad said.
The order mandates all petrol pump operators, dealers, and commercial and industrial establishments to strictly follow fuel purchase and sale norms.
Collector Prasad said the administration has stepped up vigilance across the supply chain to curb illegal diversion, storage and unauthorised transactions.
To enforce compliance, the district has launched a special inspection drive. Surprise checks will be conducted at petrol pumps and on fuel transport vehicles by the District Supply Officer, Sub-Divisional Officers, tehsildars and other enforcement agencies.
“If any unauthorised fuel diversion or supply is noticed, the licence of the dealer concerned will be suspended or cancelled immediately. Criminal cases will also be registered under the Essential Commodities Act 1955,” he warned.
The administration has appealed to fuel dealers and consumers to avoid panic buying and adhere to norms to ensure smooth and transparent fuel distribution.
