In a relief to about 10 eateries operating illegally on the banks of Telangkhedi lake, the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court, on Wednesday, granted an interim stay to their demolition by the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT).

NAGPUR: In a relief to about 10 eateries operating illegally on the banks of Telangkhedi lake, the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court, on Wednesday, granted an interim stay to their demolition by the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT). A division bench comprising justices Bhushan Dharmadhikari and Chandrakant Bhadang adjourned the hearing till Friday. Social activist Sanjay Agrawal had approached the court contending that many illegal shops were operating near the Telangkhedi promenade, leading to congestion in the area.

He contended that the encroachments were rising due such shops with each passing day. Taking cognisance, the NIT had issued notices to these shops asking for an explanation on May 13 last year. NIT had recently decided to take action after which the shop owners moved to court praying for the stay.
