NAGPUR
: To mark its silver jubilee year, Lata Mangeshkar Hospital has decided to hold activities throughout the year that promotes better medical services in rural areas. These celebrations will begin from Monday in the form of a 10-day ‘arogya yatra’ or health tour. Another part of the celebration would include providing treatment to rural population at concessional rates.
The initiative would be inaugurated on Monday by the founder of Vidya Shikshak Prasarak Mandal (VSPM) Bhausaheb Bhonge, at Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Digdoh Hills, Hingna Road. A delegation of around 150 people from the hospital including doctors, nurses, medical social workers, students and other volunteers would take part in the tour. The team would visit several villages around the city like Parseoni, Bharsingi, Khapa, Narkhed and Warud among many others. It will end at Bhilgaon on February 18.
“The theme is emergency medical services about which we would make the rural population aware. The 4,000-odd students and staff of the institution will be trained in basic life support as will be some of the villagers. An arogya rath has been designed with the aim of increasing awareness about many of the medical problems blood donation, tobacco consumption, eye diseases and others that are especially relevant in the rural areas,” said secretary of VSPM Dr
Amol Deshmukh. Street plays, posters and other means would be used in addition to the rath which will be a part of the procession to spread awareness.
