Satellite cardiac unit to come up at CIMS, will cater to rural patients
Mysuru: The Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) has decided to enter into a memorandum of understanding with Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Centre, Bengaluru, to establish a satellite cardiac unit to extend quality healthcare to rural patients.
As there was no such facility in the border district, the establishment of such an unit will help people of Chamarajanagar to access quality screening and treatment amid concerns over the increasing incidence of cardiovascular diseases among younger people.
Ahead of the launch of the satellite unit, CIMS has initiated measures to launch weekly cardiac screening at its hospital soon.
CIMS has planned to set up a cardiac unit, cardiac catheterisation laboratory also known as Cath Lab, for the benefit of patients suffering from heart-related problems once the ongoing construction of a three-storied critical care block comes up in the CIMS premises.
According to authorities, work on the new critical care block is almost over, and the contractor who took up this work is likely to hand over the new building to CIMS within a few months.
CIMS management has planned to establish a cardiology unit along with the establishment of Cath Lab. With the MoU with Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Centre, CIMS will start weekly screening of heart patients at its hospital.
Dr Manjunath, dean and director of CIMS, said that director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences Dr B Dinesha evinced interest to start weekly screening of cardiac patients in CIMS for the benefit of people of the district. He said CIMS has also given its consent, agreed to starting weekly screening, and will enter into a MoU with Jayadeva Institute in this regard.
“It also initiated measures to set up a cardiology unit along with the establishment of a Cath Lab facility. This facility will help to conduct minimally invasive procedures like angiography and angioplasty. This lab also helps in the detection and treatment of blocked and narrowed arteries of heart patients,” he said.
Dr B Dinesh said once all MoU procedures are completed, it will start the service in CIMS.
Chamarajanagar Soliga Tribal Welfare Association vice-president Madegowda welcomed the move and urged the authorities to step up efforts for establishment of a cardiology unit as people of the district were badly affected without access to quality tertiary facilities in the district. People of the district depended upon places like Mysuru and Bengaluru for such treatment, he added.
