PIT NDPS Act invoked for first time in Mysuru; drug peddler held

Mysuru: Mysuru City police Tuesday invoked Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988 (PIT NDPS Act) for the first time, arresting a 32-year-old Irfan Pasha of Mandi Mohalla in the city on charges of drug peddling amid a crackdown on narcotics.Commissioner of police Seema Latkar told TOI that strict measures are being implemented to eradicate drug-related activities, with the aim of eliminating the sale, storage and transportation of narcotics and protecting society."He is a known offender and has been arrested under the PIT NDPS Act and shifted to Bellary Central Jail," Latkar said.According to police, Irfan Pasha Jatan has allegedly been involved in the sale, storage, transportation and supply of drugs since the age of nine. Between 2014 and 2025, nine cases were registered against him under the NDPS Act, with a total of 20 kg of drugs seized. He has been convicted by the court in three of these cases, she explained.The Mysuru City police have set up a helpline — 8277948080 — named ‘Vimukthi', encouraging the public to share information related to the sale, transportation and consumption of drugs to help make Mysuru a drug-free city.Latkar said police will now explore options to investigate the financial transactions of those involved to completely curb illegal drug activity.Meanwhile, the commissioner handed over recovered mobile phones to their owners.
