MYSORE: Except Heggadadevana Kote taluk, Mysore district is free of spurious liquor manufacturing units, said excise deputy commissioner Y Manjunath.
The officials closed down five of the 22 illicit liquor manufacturing units in H D Kote where with the arrest of two kingpins Santhosh and Raja. Manjunath said there are many units in Kerala. "As it is not easy to conduct simultaneous raids, we are taking them up stage by stage," the DC said.
Since the arrest of Faizal of Gandhi Nagar, an active bootlegger in the city, the illegal activity in the city has come down since 2009, the DC said.
The DC attributed it to creating awareness about ill effects of spurious liquor at taluk and district levels.
Meanwhile, those who keep the shops open beyond deadline, transport and possess liquor in excess of the specified amount will be booked under Excise Act. So far, over 450 cases have been registered against the violators, Manjunath stated.
