Karnataka assembly elections: These polls not about you, Rahul Gandhi tells PM Narendra Modi

TUMAKURU: Reacting to PM Narendra Modi’s accusation that he was “abused 91 times by Congress”, former all India Congress president Rahul Gandhi, on Monday said Modi should speak about the BJP government’s work and future programmes for Karnataka instead of talking about himself. “This election is not about you; it is about the people of Karnataka and their future,” Rahul said during his address at a rally.“You claim Congress abused you 91 times, but you never speak about what you did for Karnataka.
In your next speech, you should speak about what you did for the past four years and what you will do in the next five years, especially for youth and in the fields of education, health, and to fight corruption.” At one point, Rahul stopped his speech after hearing Azaan (the Muslim call to prayer). He said when he comes to Karnataka and addresses public rallies, he speaks about the party’s senior functionaries like Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar and about their work. He said the PM doesn’t mention the names of chief minister Basavaraj Bommai or his predecessor BS Yediyurappa. “Try taking their names; they will feel happy,” Rahul said. Accusing the BJP of rampant corruption in Karnataka, Rahul said: “It is not that the Prime Minister is not aware of this corruption and 40% commission his government is accused of. He is aware of everything, so my question to the PM is, despite knowing about it, did you take any action? You did not. Why? You should answer this for the people of Karnataka.”
