MYSORE: A man who tried to play Good Samaritan met with a fatal end at Yadavagiri in V V Puram police limits on Wednesday night.
Armugum (50) of Medar block, abutting upscale Yadavagiri, went to rescue Puttaraju (30), who was being attacked by an armed group of 10 youths near his residence around 10pm. But the gang vented their wrath on Armugum and one among them allegedly stabbed him with a sharp weapon.
All of them fled leaving Armugum, a daily worker, to die.
Though he was rushed to a hospital, he died soon after, police said. Armugum's friends, Biligiri and Puttaraju, too sustained injuries. Both are are out of danger.
DCP (Law and Order) Basavaraj Malagatti told TOI that a trivial issue over a two-wheeler taking a turn without signalling led to the tragedy. An unidentified youth who was behind Puttaraju on a two-wheeler took objection when Puttaraju took a right turn without signalling. A verbal duel ensued which was settled with Armugum and Biligiri intervening. But the youth took did not let the matter rest there. He called his friends. Within minutes, a group of youths, all armed, came on two-wheelers and began to attack Puttaraju near his residence.
One of them was caught after his bike skidded. However, police say he was not part of the gang, but a passerby. Police have detained three youths and are interrogating
