MYSORE: The three-month national-level lok adalat that commenced on September 1 aims at disposing of 15,000 cases.
District legal service authority member-secretary Judge Dinesh Hegde said cooperation from advocates has been sought to make the adalat a success. Litigants are free to approach the authorities for speedy disposal of their cases.
This is the second such adalat being held this year. As many as 10,000 cases were disposed of during the previous lok adalat.
Cases relating to compoundable offence, cheque bounce, motor accident, matrimonial/family and family disputes, land acquisition, civil case, rent, bank recovery and pre-litigation will be settled through lok adalat, which will be held at all district and taluk courts everyday till December 6.
Even disputes pending before various departments can been settled through compromise. Cases relating to the revenue department, MGNREGA scheme, electricity bills, water bills, sales/income tax, service matters, forest Act and railway Acts can be settled.
"If a litigant approaches us, we will summon the other party and try to settle the case quickly. Here the parties needn't give any fee to advocates. The benefits of lok adalat are that the cases will be disposed of speedily. Judgment passed in lok adalat is final and no appeal lies against such decision and the entire court fee will be refunded to the party," the judge claimed.
