Two held for deer hunting, one suspect on the run
Madikeri: Forest authorities apprehended two individuals for allegedly hunting deer in Kodagu, while a third suspect remains at large.
The detained suspects are Sunil, 34, from Siddapura and KD Muthanna, 59, from Napoklu. AN Shyam, 50, a resident of Kakkabe near Napoklu, is absconding.
According to sources, the trio allegedly killed two deer that wandered into a coffee plantation in Atturu-Nalluru village within the Kushalnagar Forest zone. Acting on a tip-off, forest officials managed to arrest two of the suspects.
The perpetrators not only killed the deer but also skinned them and dismembered their bodies. They subsequently buried the remains within the coffee plantation.
The arrested individuals were remanded to judicial custody after being charged under the provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act. Both forest and police officers have launched a search for the absconding suspect.
