CCB busts cricket betting racket, one arrested

Mysuru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) busted a cricket betting racket. On Thursday, the sleuths raided a house in KR Mohalla and arrested S Swamy, 61.
Swamy was caught betting on the India-England one-day match. Police seized three mobile phones, a television, Rs 2,800 and slips. KR police have registered a case.
In another case, CCB sleuths arrested eight persons involved in gambling inside a temple.Police arrested Suresh, 34, Manju, 30, Prasad, 25, Ganga, 27, Venugopal, 32, Anil, 29, Vinod, 25, and Praveen Kumar,32, all residents of Kukkarahalli.
Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths raided Kukkarahalli Doddammatayi Temple last Sunday and arrested the youths. The police seized Rs 5,430 cash. Lashkar police have registered a case. Meanwhile, CCB police rescued a woman from prostitution and arrested Kiran alias Badra, 28, and Bharat, 23, both from Mandya district, for their involvement in sex trade. TNN
