Mysuru: A day after the
Karnataka High Court stayed the appointment of the University of Mysore vice-chancellor NK Loknath, the VC did not attend duty on Thursday. The varsity officials informed that they are waiting for a directive from the government and governor following the HC judgement.
“Till late in the evening we didn’t receive any communication,” University authorities informed.
It can be recalled that Loknath was appointed as the VC on March 23. On Wednesday, Karnataka high court stayed his appointment based on a petition filed by professor Sharath Ananthamurthy, one of the contenders for the post.
Sources informed that VC didn’t attend any official duty on Thursday. When contacted VC Loknath informed that he was busy in the meeting, and didn’t reply further.
According to the University sources, the state higher education department is likely to take a decision after consultation with the law department on the future course of action. tnn
