Woman from suburban Mumbai kills 3-year-old daughter and dies by suicide

Ambernath: A 26-year-old woman in Ambernath allegedly killed her 3-year-old daughter before ending her own life, reportedly depressed over the death of her sister's 8-year-old son two months ago.According to police, the woman was extremely attached to her sister's son, who had died of an illness recently, and she had been deeply disturbed since the tragedy. She had only recently returned to her home in Ambarnath (East) to live with her husband after staying for some time at her maternal home.Shivaji Nagar police said the incident took place late Friday night when the woman's husband, who works in the MIDC area, was on night duty. On Saturday morning around 9 am, when he returned home, he found the door locked from inside. Despite repeated knocks, there was no response. Looking in through the window, he was shocked to see his wife and daughter deceased.He immediately informed the police, who broke open the door, recovered the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem.Senior Police Inspector Ramesh Patil of Shivaji Nagar Police Station said that preliminary investigation suggests the woman was suffering from depression following her nephew's death. "She was visibly distressed, and her husband had even advised her to spend some time at her maternal home. However, she stayed back and ultimately took this extreme step," he added.Police have registered a case of accidental death and further investigation is underway.
