Varsha Gaikwad takes over as Cong city chief

Mumbai: Varsha Gaikwad on Thursday took over the reins of the Congress in the city from outgoing president Bhai Jagtap. Daughter of former Congress city president Eknath Gaikwad, Varsha is the first woman to lead the city unit. She has been elected to the assembly from the reserved Dharavi constituency for the third consecutive term.
Former CMs Ashok Chavan, Suhilkumar Shinde, Prithviraj Chavan, former MPs Sanjay Nirupam, Priya Dutt and Bhai Jagtap showered praise on Varsha for her leadership qualities.Besides Congress activists, many women activists attended the brief event. TNN
