MUMBAI: Two men were killed in two mishaps in Andheri (E) in the past 48 hours. On Friday, a 30-year-old biker, Gurudutt Rao, was run over by a truck on the Western Express Highway. Gurudutt Rao, the biker, was riding on the north-bound stretch of the highway around 3 pm, when the mishap took place. Police officials said the truck was bound to Rajasthan.
Rao, a resident of Borivli, was crushed beneath the rear wheels of the truck. The truck driver was later arrested by the Andheri police on charges of causing death negligently
On Thursday, Mohd Maroz Khan (35), was killed when a reversing tempo hit him. The person who was reversing the tempo, Mohd. The incident took place around 10.30 am on V M Shah Road in J B Nagar. "The tempo driver was not around. In a bid to park the vehicle at a different spot, the accused, Mohammad Farman Hussain (22), sat behind the wheel and started reversing the tempo. Hussain worked as a cleaner. He failed to notice another driver, Mohammad Maroz Khan (35) standing behind the tempo," a police official said.
When Hussain crashed into Khan, the latter collapsed and blood started oozing from his nose and mouth. Khan also sustained severe head injuries. Locals rushed Khan to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.
Hussain, a native of Pratapgarh in UP, was arrested and produced before a metropolitan court, which remanded him to judicial custody. The killer tempo (MH04 CU 5528) as seized by the Andheri police.
