Arvind Sawant has filed a police complaint that someone has created a fictitious profile on social media and demanding money on his behalf.
Sources said Sawant, on a state tour, had complained to cyber crime that someone had created the profile on social media and was sending requests to his friends for money. He told police he had requested friends to block the person.
The police are likely to file an FIR.
Sawant, from Shiv Sena, was minister of heavy industries and public enterprises since 2019 and a Lok Sabha member since 2014. In November 2019, he quit as Union minister.
