MUMBAI: On Sunday morning, it was a trip down memory lane for about 20 scientists, including some from abroad, who visited places in Mumbai that were associated with Homi Bhabha, the father of India's nuclear programme.
The journey was a part of the birth centenary celebrations of Bhabha. The scientists had participated in a three-day international conference from Thursday at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).
Accompanying the group was TIFR director Mustanser Barma.
The visit began at the Old Yacht Club, near the Gateway, where they were shown Bhabha's office. It is the headquarters of the department of atomic energy (DAE).
From the Old Yacht Club, they drove to the semi-circular Kenilworth apartment at Pedder Road. Bhabha was born in a bungalow called Kenilworth at this place on October 30, 1909, which has been demolished and replaced with the building. An exhibition about Bhabha's life and achievements has been organised by the DAE, TIFR, BARC and the Kenilworth Residents Association (KRA), it will remain open to the public between 10 am and 5 pm.
