Over 24 lakh found in two cars, raid on businessman in Mumbai

Authorities seized a total of Rs 24.4 lakh in cash from two cars and in a raid on a businessman in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Thursday and Friday.
Four people travelling in a car were detained with Rs 12 lakh in the early hours of Friday in Sewri, said the Election Commission. The EC statement said the police intercepted a tourist vehicle around 2.30 am and found the cash in a bag in it, following which the four occupants were taken to the police station.
While one of the persons detained, identified as Zuber Samiullah Khan, said the money was for his business purposes, he failed to give satisfactory answers on its background.

Income tax authorities were informed about the seizure.
The three others in the car were identified as Syed Shahbaz Mohammad Shah Alam, Yusuf Usman Sheikh and Akbar Salim Pathan.
A flying squad from Belapur assembly segment of the Thane Lok Sabha constituency on Thursday confiscated Rs 10 lakh from a private vehicle near Uran Phata flyover on the Sion-Panvel Highway.
A Suzuki Ertiga vehicle wit hregistration number MH-46 AU 3504 was intercepted by the squad during a special check.
"On enquiry, the driver of the vehicle Sheshram Choudhary, a resident of Ulve failed to produce relevant proof and explain the source of the cash, which led to the seizure," Prashant Patil, head of the team, said.
A Bhiwandi businessman was found in possession of Rs 2.4 lakh in a surprise raid by a special team to fight violations, including pssible illegal financial transactions ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
