MUMBAI: In a session on Parsis and sports at the 10th World Zoroastrian Congress, former cricketer Nari Contractor spoke nostalgically about the days when Parsis dominated the cricket scene with stalwarts like Rusi Surti and Farokh Engineer. He mentioned that currently, there are no Parsi cricketers, who show any sign of promise in any age group.
An initiative was set up to remedy this situation by providing sports facilities at baugs and Parsi colonies, however, in a few days, the number of participants dwindled.
Health guru Mickey Mehta puts the blame squarely on parents, who encourage their children to devote their time to academics rather than sport. — Nergish Sunavala
