Mumbai police bust job racket, 2 arrested

Two members of a gang have been arrested in Mumbai for cheating youngsters with promises of jobs abroad. The gang operated a recruitment and placement service, luring victims with job offers in Azerbaijan. Victims were asked to pay a certain amount and when they demanded their passports back, the gang demanded an extortion amount in exchange. The police seized various items including passports, fake rubber stamps, and visas. The mastermind of the gang, Ashish Kumar, is currently on the run. Over 40 to 50 people were duped by the gang.

MUMBAI: The city crime branch arrested two members of a gang for luring youngsters with job offers abroad.
They used to cheat them by asking them to pay around Rs 50,000-1 lakh and when the victims demanded their passports back, they would demand an extortion amount in exchange.
The police arrested one Ramkrupal Kushwa from Bhiwandi and one Rohit Sinha from Delhi and are looking for at least six more members of the gang that cheated several youngsters with promise of jobs in Azerbaijan.

Police said that the accused gang operated recruitment and placement services under the name of Bombay consultancy at Shahid Bhagat singh road in south Mumbai and lured youngsters with a promise of Rs 50,000-Rs 80,000 job package in Azerbaijan.
"The accused also showed them bogus documents of vacancies and accepted money from them and cheated the victims, mostly from Bihar. When the victims demanded their passport back, the gang members demanded an extortion amount in exchange of passports," said an officer.
Police team led by inspector Ghanshyam Nair raided the consultancy office and seized a router, 2 telephones, fake rubber stamps, visas and medical test book and 21 passports of various victims.
"Atleast 40 to 50 people mostly from poor families were duped by the gang. We are now looking to arrest the mastermind of the gang, Ashish Kumar, from Bihar who is on the run," said an officer.
