Juhu gymkhana managing committee divided over legality of ATM

MUMBAI: An ATM on the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club premises has divided the managing committee. Some committee members say the ATM is illegal. The rest say it can not be called illegal as long as a request to regularize it is pending before the municipal corporation.
Amitabh Bachchan and several other film stars are members of the club.
Committee member Dilip Kathrani said documents obtained using the RTI showed the ATM was unauthorized.
“We are opposing the ATM because it was set up without the concerned authority’s permission,” Kathrani said. “Any such construction in the front open space of the building is illegal.”
The secretary, Bhargav Patel, said the club just converted the guard cabin into an ATM. He produced a document to show 20 out of 25 committee members supported the ATM proposal.
“Only four people are making an issue to create a problem in the gymkhana’s functioning,” Patel said.
