MUMBAI: Zahir Khan, who was recently arrested by the Mumbai crime branch from Kalyan for allegedly selling explosives to quarry owners at Nagla bunder in Thane, is suspected to have links with the underworld.

MUMBAI: Zahir Khan, who was recently arrested by the Mumbai crime branch from Kalyan for allegedly selling explosives to quarry owners at Nagla bunder in Thane, is suspected to have links with the underworld.
Police sources said that the crime branch team suspects him to have supplied explosives for the recent blasts at Mulund, Ghatkopar, Vile Parle and Mumbai Central.

"We are confirming this angle," a senior crime branch officer said.
Khan, owner of Zak Enterprises in Kalyan, was previously arrested on two occasions for illegal sale of explosives. He has a godown at Igatpuri.
He had allegedly supplied ammonium nitrate and gelatin sticks to the Thane quarry owners, Munesh and Deepal Thakur, both of whom have been arrested.
The police had raided their quarry on August 6 and recovered 185 kgs of ammonium nitrate, about 800 detonators and 35 gelatine sticks. They also arrested the quarry manager Vidhyadhar Koli.
