Dawood celebrates status of grandfather
MUMBAI: Even as the Union government is putting pressure on Islamabad to hand over Dawood Ibrahim, India's most-wanted is busy celebrating his new status as a grandfather.
Recently, his daughter Mahrukh delivered a baby girl and the celebrations in Dawood's circle have not stopped since then. Mahrukh married noted Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad's son Junaid at the Hyatt in Dubai in July 2005.

The TOI was the first to break that news.
When news of the don becoming a grandpa reached his friends in Karachi, Dubai, Mumbai and other cities, champagne corks popped and sweets by the tonnes were distributed among all and sundry. In Mumbai, Dawood's trusted lieutenant and uncrowned king of smuggling in the city's docks Mohammed Ali purchased hundreds of kilos of pedas and gave them to both the rich and poor of Bhendi Bazar, Pydhonie, Dongri and other areas.
The D gang is suspected to have performed a recce and provided logistical support to the 26/11 terror attack executed by the Lashkar-e-Taiba at the instance of the ISI with which Dawood has extremely close links. But with the authorities in India reluctant to crush his gang in Mumbai, members have been emboldened in their operations. The open distribution of sweets was a clever way of telling the people that the don still wields power in the metropolis.
Ali has become so bold that recently he threatened a Union minister and demanded a huge ransom amount from him. This minister, who did not wish to have his identity disclosed, told TOI recently: "I was shocked when Ali called me recently and tried to extort a vast sum from me. If this is my plight, the condition of others can well be imagined. I do not know why the state government is not doing anything about this man.''
