Mumbai:
Zeeshan Siddiqui, son of slain NCP leader Baba Siddiqui, has mentioned the names of several builders in connection with his suspicions regarding his father's assassination. His statement, which is part of the police chargesheet, mentions prominent names including Prithvi Chavan, Shahid Balwa, Shivalik Ventures, Adani, Nabeel Patel, Vinod Goenka, and Omkar Builders. Zeeshan claims his father's murder may be linked to his work in securing slum dwellers' rights in Bandra East.
The Mumbai crime branch has, however, ruled out this angle saying their investigations point towards gangster Anmol Bishnoi. They say he ordered the hit for Siddiqui's alleged links with Dawood Ibrahim and Salman Khan.
Zeeshan has alleged that he and his father were being targeted for opposing corrupt practices in slum redevelopment. He recounted how he had been falsely implicated in a case at Kherwadi Police Station after advising slum dwellers to carefully review agreements before signing them.
He also named BJP leader Mohit Kamboj, saying his father had noted Kamboj's name in his diary and had a WhatsApp chat with him on the day of the incident. However, Zeeshan did not accuse Kamboj. He merely mentioned him as being the last person whom Siddiqui had a chat with. Kambhoj told TOI that Baba Siddiqui was "a good friend of his" and he has already told police what the conversation was about.
Zeeshan alleged that Kamboj wanted to discuss a redevelopment project by Mundra Builders in Bandra East, a project that had already sparked controversy. He revealed that slum dwellers had provided video evidence of Mundra Builders' representatives using abusive language against his father.
Zeeshan has accused certain police officers of working under pressure from developers to obstruct his efforts. He has recounted an instance when Kherwadi Police halted government-funded development work and detained workers without proper authorization. Senior officials allegedly ignored his calls and delayed addressing his concerns.
