ATM looter's cash, scooter, gold seized

The Navghar police on Tuesday seized Rs 65,000 fixed deposits (FD), a Honda Activa scooter and gold ornaments worth Rs 2.5 lakh from the Thane home of a 28-year-old commerce graduate who was arrested on Friday for siphoning off Rs15.5 lakh from two ATMs of Axis Bank at Mulund over the past six months.

MUMBAI: The Navghar police on Tuesday seized Rs 65,000 fixed deposits (FD), a Honda Activa scooter and gold ornaments worth Rs 2.5 lakh from the Thane home of a 28-year-old commerce graduate who was arrested on Friday for siphoning off Rs15.5 lakh from two ATMs of Axis Bank at Mulund over the past six months.
Prathamesh Sarmalkar has told the police that he needed the money to meet the expenses of his ailing mother.

The police said the FD belonged to Prathamesh’s father Shashikant, while the gold ornaments and scooter were bought recently. “We are finding out his other investments,” Navghar police station senior inspector Shrimant Gule said.
