MEERUT: What started as a rumour, on Friday afternoon, about a gas leak from a factory at Partapur after a man lost consciousness in the adjoining plant, was found to be a chemical solvents’ leak.
The incident took place around 11.45 am when chemical solvent from Shubham Organic factory floated in the direction of the neighbouring factory in the absence of proper boundary walls between them.
Fire officials reached the spot immediately and found that what was thought as a gas leak was in fact a leakage of organic solvents.
Detailing the incident, chief fire officer Santosh Rai, said, “We were informed about the incident at around 11:45am. After we reached the spot we checked the premises of Shubham Organic factory but could not find traces of gas leakage.”
Rai explained that due to the factory’s low boundary wall the chemicals floated towards adjoining unit - JCL Infrastructure.
One Salman from JCL Infrastructure fainted on the spot even as workers at Shubham Organic Factory remained unharmed.
“When Salman fainted, we had to rush him to a nearby hospital. He came back to his senses in a few minutes thereafter. We hope that the factory owners take note of this incident and avert any such thing in future,” said an eye witnesses.
While no other casualties were reported, the owners of Shubham Organic Factory were instructed to increase the height of the boundary wall.
