In a first, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind sets up camp for kanwariyas in Muzaffarnagar

MUZZAFARNAGAR: Days after Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind came under fire from Hindu rightwing groups after it announced the formation of a ‘Jamiat Youth Club’ in which it intends to train 12 lakh youths every year in “mental fitness and self defence techniques” across five states, one of the biggest Islamic organisations in India has now extended assistance to kanwariyas by setting up a camp in Muzaffarnagar, with nearly 150 volunteers.BJP MP Sanjeev Baliyan welcomed the move.
Qari Zakir, secretary, West Uttar Pradesh unit of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, said, “The Youth Club sent its workers to help kanwariyas in Chhapar and Purkazi areas. By Tuesday evening, we will set up another camp for kanwariyas on Sujru Chungi here in Muzaffarnagar. As many as 150 members from the Youth Club and many from the main Jamiat are working continuously to help kanwariyas.”
“The people who were opposing the Youth Club can visit here and see what invaluable service is being offered by the Jamiat. This is the first time that we have set up a camp under the Jamiat’s banner for pilgrims in Muzaffarnagar,” Zakir added.
Muzaffarnagar MP Sanjeev Balyan said, “It is really good to see that many Muslims and organisations including Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind are coming forward to help kanwariyas. The step will build confidence between both communities.”
Baliyan had visited camps set up by social organisations Paigham-e-Insaniyat and Awaz-e-Haq in Muslim-dominated areas.
