MANGALURU: Former minister and senior Congress leader B Ramanath Rai called BJP national general secretary CT
Ravi an anti-national for his derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
The Congress leader said that BJP leaders have been insulting national leaders, who fought for Independence and at the same time they call Nathuram Godse, who killed Mahatma Gandhi, a patriot.
“C T Ravi, who made ‘hookah bar’ remarks against Jawaharlal Nehru, is an anti-national. The BJP leaders have not spared any patriots like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. They do not remember the sacrifices those leaders made for the nation. All politicians follow their political party’s ideologies, but when it comes to the nation, we all should be together,” Rai said.
Rai said Congress will not tolerate remarks against national leaders, who fought for Independence.
“Insulting Mahatma Gandhi and calling his assassin a nationalist cannot be tolerated. He (Ravi) was made national general secretary of the BJP. However, when it comes to the Mekedatu project, he speaks in favour of Tamil Nadu. The BJP calls us slaves of the Nehru family, but we are happy not being slaves of corporate companies like they do,” Rai added.
Meanwhile in Mysuru, BJP MLC AH Vishwanath took on Ravi for his jibes against Nehru.
The former minister said Nehru spent more days in jail than he held office, which Ravi should not forget. He asked Ravi to refer to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s speech in the aftermath of Nehru’s death.
“Vajpayee had mourned Nehru’s death saying India has lost its prince. He and his family had donated their earnings for India’s freedom movement,” Vishwanath said, wondering if Ravi had ever spared even 10 paisa for the welfare of the nation.
Ravi should be ashamed of his statements against Nehru, he told reporters, adding such statements depict BJP in poor light.
