2 pedestrians killed in separate accidents
Udupi: Two pedestrians died in separate incidents in the district. A man died after he was allegedly hit by a speeding car while attempting to cross National Highway-66 near Siridham Hotel in Kotathattu village on Tuesday. The deceased is Krishna Devadiga,60.
According to the complaint filed by Raghavendra Poojary of Kotathattu village in Brahmavar, at 6.45 pm, Krishna Devadiga was standing near Siridhama Hotel in Kotathattu village, waiting to cross the road, when a car travelling from Udupi towards Kundapur, hit him. The car driver, identified as Manish Shetty, was allegedly driving at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner. Due to the impact, Devadiga sustained severe head injuries and bled due to being injured on other parts of the body.
He was first taken to the government hospital in Kota, where doctors advised shifting him to a higher medical centre for advanced treatment. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Manipal. However, he reportedly did not respond to treatment and was declared dead. Based on the complaint, Kota police have registered a case under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS against the car driver.
In another case, a man died after he was allegedly hit by a speeding motorcycle while standing near National Highway-66 at Pandeshwar village in Sasthan on Tuesday evening. The deceased is Raghavendra Upadhyaya.
According to the complaint filed by Prashanth Chadaga, of Pandeshwar village, the accident happened when Raghavendra Upadhyaya was standing, apparently waiting to cross the road, when a motorcycle, travelling from Udupi towards Kundapur, allegedly hit him.
The motorcycle rider, identified as Bharat, was allegedly riding at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner towards the extreme right side of the road when the accident occurred. Due to the impact, both Bharat and pedestrian Raghavendra Upadhyaya fell onto the road. Raghavendra sustained severe head injuries and bleeding injuries to his hands and legs. He was shifted in an ambulance to a private hospital in Manipal, where doctors examined him and declared him dead. Based on the complaint, Kota police have registered a case. An investigation is ongoing.
