Madurai: Two men were killed after their speeding motorcycles collided head-on at Kamarajar Salai near Teppakulam here on Sunday.
Police identified the deceased as Gurupandi, 18, a resident of Anuppanadi, and Samuel, 21, from Palayamkottai in the Tirunelveli district. Guruprasad, 18, suffered critical injuries and is undergoing treatment at a govt hospital.
Police said Samuel, a hotel worker, was returning from work on a bike around 12.15am. At that time, two construction workers were coming in the opposite direction. "Both riders were driving the vehicles at high speed. When they were near a govt-aided school on Kamarajar Salai, their vehicles collided head-on. The impact was so severe that both riders died on the spot," said a police officer.
Police shifted Guruprasad to Govt Rajaji Hospital. The dead bodies were recovered and sent for autopsy. The city traffic police registered a case and are investigating.
