Two killed as bus bound for Kollam rams two-wheelers
Kanyakumari: Two people died after a private omni bus, collided with two two-wheelers and plummeted into a roadside canal near Thuckalay in Kanyakumari district, on Monday morning.Police sources said the bus, which was on its way from Bengaluru to Kollam via Nagercoil, reached Kumarakovil area near Thuckalay during the early hours of Monday.The driver, Sibil, 36, of Trivandrum, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to swerve violently. The speeding bus first rammed into two oncoming two-wheelers before breaking through the boundary and overturning into an adjacent canal.As a result, two painters, Vijay, 28, and his maternal uncle, Suresh Kumar, 42, travelling on a separate two-wheeler, were killed on the spot. They were on their way to Nagercoil for painting work.Police and fire safety personnel rushed to the scene, safely rescued the passengers trapped inside the overturned bus, recovered the two bodies, and sent them to Kanyakumari Govt Medical College Hospital for autopsy.Police said that as the bus was a sleeper coach, all the passengers escaped unhurt in the accident.The Thuckalay police registered a case and are investigating. Initial investigations revealed that the accident could have occurred because the driver fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle.
