Two die during manjuvirattu event in Melur

Madurai: Two men died during a manjuvirattu event at Uranganpatti village near Melur in Madurai district on Wednesday.Police said the event was organised as part of the Manthai Karuppasamy temple festival. A spectator, R Govindasamy, 60, of Sivaganga district, was gored by a bull. He succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital, police said. Vairamoorthy, a 20-year-old bull owner from Sivaganga, drowned when he tried to save his bull that entered a waterbody. His body was recovered and sent to the Melur GH for autopsy. The Keelavalavu police are investigating.
