Tuticorin: A 48-year-old man allegedly killed his son during a midnight brawl near Ettayapuram in Tuticorin. The fatal confrontation reportedly stemmed from a disagreement regarding the repair of a two-wheeler.
The deceased, identified as Kanagaraj, 22, a drug addict and frequently under the influence of ganja, was engaged in a persistent verbal altercation with his parents, who were residing in Tiruvallur district.
They sent their son, Kanagaraj, to his grandparents' house in Ettayapuram, hoping that he would transform.
According to police sources, on Sunday his parents came to Ettayapuram after they received a call that their son was engaging in frequent altercations with his grandparents and asking for money.
At around 12.15am on Monday, Kanagaraj demanded that his father, Balachandran, get his motorcycle repaired, a request that eventually led to a heated exchange of words between the two.
As the argument reached a boiling point, Balachandran lost control. In a fit of rage, he seized a wooden log and struck his son. He then smashed his son with a grinding stone. Kanagaraj sustained a serious head injury and died on the spot.
The Ettayapuram police arrived at the residence, recovered the body, and shifted it to the govt hospital for autopsy.
Balachandran was taken into custody immediately and is currently being interrogated. A case was registered, and further investigation is underway.
