Madurai has become an identity of corruption: MLA
Madurai: The upcoming assembly election is two-way contest between the AIADMK alliance and DMK alliance, and not a four-cornered contest as assumed by many, AIADMK MLA of Thiruparankundram constituency, V V Rajan Chellappa, said on Monday. He was speaking at an event organised here on Saturday, to launch his book titled ‘Neengalum Therindhukollungal', detailing his journey for Madurai's development and various projects implemented for the people during his tenure in Thiruparankundram constituency."AIADMK is not subservient to anyone. We have not given up any rights; we have secured the rights of Tamil Nadu. EPS went to New Delhi to quickly finalise the alliance seat-sharing with the national party and will not compromise on AIADMK's policies. We have never compromised on policies like DMK," Chellappa said.Referring to allegations of corruption in Madurai corporation, the MLA said that Madurai has become an identity of corruption.Chellappa said that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami implemented various developmental projects when AIADMK was in power. The projects included the announcement of AIIMS Madurai, construction of flyovers, and renovation of the 13 stormwater drainage canals in the city.
However, at present, all the canals are in despair. Several steps were taken to ensure that Madurai was pollution-free; however, the city has now become polluted. He said that when EPS comes back to power after the election, steps would be taken to establish industries to create employment opportunities for the youth. "Steps would also be taken to create the Madurai-Tuticorin industrial corridor," he added.
