Lawyers protest for removal of judge who initiated action against them
Madurai: Hundreds of advocates took out a procession as part of their protest here on Friday demanding removal of Judicial Magistrate (JM) V of Madurai, Lakshmi Priya, who initiated action against some of them for disrupting court proceedings in January.
The advocates, members of Joint Advocates Association Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and Madurai Bar Association, marched from the district court complex in K K Nagar to the Madurai bench of Madras high court campus condemning the JM for initiating action against certain advocates. They held placards and raised slogans against the judge during the procession. They also held a protest in front of the Madurai bench campus. Police diverted traffic on the stretch in view of the procession.
It may be recalled that advocates practising before Madurai district court had filed seek a batch of petitions before HC seeking to quash proceedings initiated by the JM V for disrupting court proceedings. Dismissing the petitions, Justice L Victoria Gowri appreciated the JM for her fearlessness, integrity, and unwavering commitment to judicial duty.
