Kanimozhi on Friday met family members of the Class XII girl who was murdered near Vilathikulam recently. She expressed her condolences to the family, and assured stringent action against the accused.

M K Stalin is also monitoring the situation to ensure that justice is rendered for the deceased girl, she said. Kanimozhi, who was accompanied by social welfare minister P Geetha Jeevan, was walking back to their car, when villagers and relatives of the girl surrounded them and picked up an argument, seeking swift action.
After Kanimozhi assured that stringent action would be taken against the accused, she was escorted back to her car by police.
Meanwhile, an advocate, K Mareeshwari, of Tuticorin district, filed a public interest litigation before Madras high court on Friday, seeking transfer of investigation in the case to CBI. The petitioner also sought a direction to the govt to pay compensation to the girl's family.
During the hearing, the state submitted that the case was altered to Section 103 (murder) of BNS and 10 special teams formed to nab the accused. A division bench of Justices N Sathish Kumar and M Jothiraman directed the state to file a status report, produce case diary files, and posted the matter for hearing to Mar 16, Monday.
