Madurai: Madras high court on Wednesday ordered notice to the authorities on a plea complaining about the bad condition of newly laid roads in Sivaganga municipality limits.
A division bench of Justice S S Sundar and Justice D Bharatha Chakravarthy was hearing a public interest litigation filed by C Rajakumaran of Sivaganga district. He stated that sanction was granted for laying roads under Nagarpura Salai Membattu Thittam in various wards of the municipality.
Following the tender process, a work order was issued in June.
However, he said the newly laid roads are in bad condition since they were not laid according to norms. Members of the public have approached the concerned ward councillors complaining about this.
The petitioner stated that inspections should be conducted by the concerned officials along with experts to assess the condition of the roads. The bill amount for the work carried out should be disbursed only after the roads are laid properly. Action should also be initiated against the concerned persons for not laying the roads as per the norms. Since the representation submitted in this regard was not considered by the authorities, the petitioner moved court seeking relief. The case was adjourned by three weeks.
