Girl commits suicide

MADURAI: A girl allegedly committed suicide as her parents opposed her love affair in Madhichayam in Madurai on Sunday. Police said, Banu Priya,18, daughter of Pandi of Madhichayam fell in love with a youth while working in a bakery at Maatuthavani. However, as her parents were against the match, she doused herself with kerosene and set fire on herself, police sources said.She was rushed to the Government Rajaji Hospital where she succumbed. Madhichayam police have registered a case.
Students held for clash: Some students were injured when a group of Plus Two students clashed with each other in Madurai on Saturday. Police, said that the students, staying in the Adi Dravidar hostel in Pudur, had clashed with each other following a quarrel. Kalaiyarasi Kannan, who sustained injuries was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital. Tallakulam police registered a case and arrested 10 students, including Yogeswaran, Ilavarasan, Rajaguru and Dinesh.
python: Inland fishermen in Tuticorin district netted a python while fishing in Thamirabarani river. Three fishermen from Muthalankurichi, who were fishing in the river on Saturday evening, had caught the python. The fishermen handed over the snake to the forest department officials at Srivaikundam range. The officials released the python at Vallanadu Blackbuck sanctuary in the district.
