Virudhunagar: A team of flying squad officials seized gold, diamond, and platinum jewels worth 14 crore, which were transported without proper documents here on Tuesday.
Official sources said that a team was involved in vehicle inspection near Soolakarai on the Virudhunagar-Sattur four-lane highway on Tuesday. When the officials searched a vehicle that was passing through the road, they found that gold and diamond jewels were being transported. During preliminary inquiry, the officials found that the jewels were being transported from Madurai to the jewellery shops in Kanyakumari district. Since the officials found that the jewels were being transported without proper documents, they seized them and handed it over to the treasury for safe custody.
Similarly, a team of static surveillance squad officials which was involved in vehicle inspection at the Venkatachalapuram checkpost near Sattur in Virudhunagar district seized nearly 90 lakh worth gold jewellery, which were transported in a car without proper documents.
