Dialysis centre opened at Madurai UPHC
Madurai: Minister for information technology Palanivel Thiagarajan inaugurated a new dialysis treatment centre at the Ansari Nagar Urban Primary Health Centre here on Thursday. The centre was set up at a cost of Rs 77 lakh. The facility includes a ground-level water storage tank with a capacity of 25,000 litres, an RO plant facility, a toilet facility and an underground sewage pipeline facility, two air-conditioned dialysis rooms, an electrical facility, generator facilities, a registration and storage room, a staff room, a materials safety room, and biomedical waste storage rooms.HDFC and HCL have agreed to provide10 dialysis machines at a total cost of Rs 75 lakh under their CSR schemes. Two dialysis machines have been installed as of now.With all machines in place, the facility will be able to treat 20 patients a day. Treatment will be provided free of cost for those having the chief minister's insurance card, while others would be charged Rs 375. Tanker Foundation will operate the centre.The city corporation had collected details of patients with renal problems before work for the centre began a few months ago. Corporation commissioner Chithra Vijayan, deputy mayor T Nagarajan, and GRH dean Dr Arul Sundaresh Kumar were present during the inauguration event.
