Class 12 girl on way to exam run over, dies

Madurai: A 18-year-old Class 12 student who was riding pillion with her cousin to write her board exam, died after being run over by a state transport corporation bus here on Monday.The deceased was identified as Durgadevi, of Aviyur.According to police sources, the girl was studying Class 12 at a government-aided school in Teppakulam. Durgadevi was on her way with her cousin Ajith Kumar. When they neared Perungudi at around 7.15am, the two-wheeler swerved left to avoid a collision with a govt bus coming behind. However, the bike landed on the edge of the road and skidded. Durgadevi fell off the bike and was run over by the bus. She sustained a severe injury and died on the spot. Kumar escaped with minor scratches.Police reached the spot and sent the body to Government Rajaji Hospital for postmortem. Perungudi police have registered a case.
