2 cops suspended for escape of murder accused

Madurai: Sivaganga district superintendent of police R Shiva Prasad has ordered suspension of two police constables in connection with the escape of a murder accused.Muthukumar alias Pulipandi, 24, of Manamadurai, was arrested in 2022 in connection with the murder of Radhakrishnan, a resident of Mattakulam near Sivaganga, that year. He subsequently got bail. However, Pulipandi consistently failed to appear for the case trial going on in a Sivaganga court. Hence, the court issued an arrest warrant against him, and Sivaganga taluk police arrested him on Feb 12.Pulipandi was then taken to Sivaganga Government Medical College for medical examination around 3.30 pm. However, he managed to push away two police constables accompanying him and escape. However, he surrendered before the Sivaganga court at 10.30 am on Friday.Later in the day, the SP issued suspension orders against constables Rajeshkannan and Shanmugavel, attached to Sivaganga taluk police station.
