PATIALA: To help Punjab residents in accessing better computer facilities in their mother tongue Punjabi, the Punjabi University Patiala has set up a special Punjabi computer help centre here on July 1.
The help centre will be managed by C P Kamboj, who is posted as programmer in the department of linguistics and Punjabi lexicography of university. The state residents from any part can approach this center if they face any problem in operating their computer in their mother tongue.
Some officers of university said the users can exchange their ideas and find solutions to common problems through the blogging facility of the site of center.
The users can also download softwares from the download centre of the site. A telephone help line is also made available and the users can ask for help on all week days between 11.00 to 12.00 noon on 0175-3046546 and 099144-15614 telephone numbers.
"Besides other fields, computer is playing an important role in connecting people with their mother tongues. Therefore it becomes the duty of the Punjabi University to help the Punjabi world in the use of computer. Through this center we intend to do the same," said Vice-Chancellor of university Dr. Jaspal Singh after inaugurating the center.
Dr. Joga Singh, head of the department said that we could reap rich benefits from computer technology only if it is based on our own languages, because only then large sections of society can make use of it. The website can be accessed from the university website home page or
