Murder case cracked, 6 arrested

The Ludhiana police claimed to have solved a blind murder of one Sumit Kumar and booked 13 persons in the case on Monday. Of the 13 accused, while six have been arrested.

LUDHIANA: The Ludhiana police claimed to have solved a blind murder of one Sumit Kumar and booked 13 persons in the case on Monday. Of the 13 accused, while six have been arrested.
According to police commissioner Paramjit Singh, they conducted a raid and arrested the accused after receiving a tip off from a source. He further said that the victim, Sumit was a resident of Jawaddi Khurd, and was murdered by Vikas Talwar, a resident of Dugri, along with his 12 accomplices.

Sumit was strangulated to death and thrown in Doraha river. The reason behind the murder was old enmity and clashes dating back to November 2011.
The arrested accused had been identified as Sanjay Niishawar, Rajwant Singh alias Chirha, Gurmeet Singh alias Raju Mota, Suneet alias Mota, Sahil Sethi and Amit Kumar alias Bholu. Meanwhile, the absconding accuseds were identified as Vikas Talwar, Munish Talwar, Sonu Kumar, Bikramjit Singh alias Chinda, Sonu Ainka Wala and Amrik Singh.
The six have confessed to their involvement in the crime.
Sumit and Vikas had an old rivalry. On October 16, 2011, Sumit was booked by the police for attacking Vikas. Since then, the latter had been looking for an opportunity to settle scores. The police, back then, had failed to arrest Sumit and declared him as a proclaimed offender.
To take his revenge, Vikas took into confidence one of Sumit”s accomplices “Prince. Through Prince, Vikas got to know that Sumit was hiding in Jalandhar. Vikas accompanied by three others and Prince, kidnapped Sumit near Ladhowal, while he was on his way to Ludhiana. They took Sumit to Vikas” residence where four more of his accomplice joined him. After this, they took him to Doraha river where they strangulated him to death and threw his body into.

“I have sent a police team to trace the record of any body recovered by any police station from the river. We are also trying to know if some missing compliant was filed by the victim”s parents,” said Gill.
He further added efforts were on to nab other accused in the case and that the car used by the accused have also been recovered.
Box: One of the accused in this case, Amit Kumar alias Bholu, is also a main accused in the kidnapping case of industrialist Manish Brara. Brara was kidnapped by Gurarpan Chauhan, his friend Deepali Bassi and five other people for a ransom of Rs 5 crore. While, five accused were arrested from the city, Amit and one Sahil had managed to escape with the ransom amount.
While the Alto car used by them and three bags of cash were recovered from near Hamirpur under Badsar police station, Amit and Sahil had managed to abscond.
However, Sahil was arrested by the Badsar police on Monday and Amit was arrested by the Ludhiana police. “We have recovered a police uniform of a head constable that was used by the accused in the kidnapping. As far as other information is concerned, we will try to scratch maximum information possible from him during interrogation,” said Gill.
