Locals, Cong leaders spar over road work

Ludhiana: Upset over blocked sewerage, residents had serious arguments with Congress leaders over inauguration of construction of streets in Manjit Nagar near the bus stand in ward number 47 on Thursday.
While residents demanded laying of main sewerage line, Congress councillor’s husband Nirmal Kaira who had come for the inauguration at site claimed that they will resolve the issue of sewerage blockage, but won’t hold up the road construction work.
Despite hue and cry, Kaira and another Congress leader Kamaljit Singh Karwal inaugurated the work. Residents claimed that they will not let the labourers to dug up roads for new work unless bigger sewerage lines are not laid down first.
Dilbagh Singh, a resident, said, “We have been suffering due to blocked sewerage as the main line is unable to take load of houses. In the rainy season, the situation gets worse. So we asked the leaders to first resolve this issue and then construct the roads.”
