LUDHIANA: BSNL users were spared complete disruption of services with the arrest of a gang from Delhi who came to steal supply wires from the city. All 10 accused were remanded in daylong police custody. Inspector Balwinder Singh, SHO of Basti Jodhewal Police station said the a gang, led by Abu Bakar and Abdul Gani were arrested from near Kirpal Nagar on late Thursday night.

Their accomplices Mohammad Farman, Chuna, Kafil Ahmad, Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Johar, Mehtab Alam and Nand Kishore have also been arrested.
The accused, who brought 10 labourers with them, had a tie up with Tahil Ahmad in Ludhiana, who was working with a contractor hired by BSNL. They hired labourers from Delhi and also got a crane posing as government contractors.
Inspector Singh said the accused also had a tie up with a scrap dealer, Mohammad Kalin in Delhi to whom they planned to sell the stolen wire.
“All the accused are from Delhi and are involved in various cases of crime at different police stations in Delhi. We have Delhi police. During interrogation we will try to get more information,” said ACP Satish Malhotra. However, he said the labourers the accused brought were let off as they had no idea about the designs of the gangsters.
