Chinese manjha kills schoolboy, woman in 24 hours in Ludhiana
LUDHIANA: A 15-year-old boy and a married woman have been killed by Chinese manjha in back-to-back tragedies in Ludhiana district.The teenager, Taranjot Singh, and a cousin, Prabhjot, were returning from school on a scooter in Samrala, 35km from Ludhiana, when their necks were slit by the deadly string on Saturday. They were taken to hospital but Taranjot couldn't be saved. Prabhjot is in a critical condition.The tragedy triggered outrage and police assured they would take action to prevent sale of Chinese manjha but to no avail.On Sunday evening, Sarabjit Kaur was driving a scooter in Mullanpur town, 15km from Ludhiana, when the banned kite string wrapped around her throat and cut deep. In the fading light, no one saw the string hanging in the air.Sarabjit collapsed on the road, bleeding profusely from neck wounds. Passersby rushed to her aid. They put her in a car and sped to hospital but she bled to death. She is survived by a two-year-old child and her husband.Dakha DSP Varinder Singh Khosa confirmed Sarabjit's death was caused by 'China dor' (string) and said action would be taken after taking down statement of her family. In Mullanpur town, at least four persons, including an eight-year-old child, and his father have been injured by 'China dor' this season.
