Lucknow: To forcefully implement Uniform Civil Code (UCC) for everyone is the latest step taken by the BJP in the direction of its divisive, discriminatory, casteist and communal policies, said BSP national president
Mayawati during a review meeting with senior party office bearers from
Punjab and
Haryana state units and union territory of Chandigarh in Delhi on Saturday.
She said that in the current scenario, UCC has no requirement and relevance.
The BJP and its governments (in different states) should rather focus on controlling inflation and eradicating poverty, unemployment and problems related to education and health services, said Mayawati, adding that it would be the real welfare of the people.
BSP had made its stand on UCC clear on July 2, when Mayawati said that the BSP is not against UCC but the way the BJP is trying to implement it in the country is reflective of its ulterior political motives.
She had said that her party will take a positive stand on UCC implementation only when the BJP implements it in a non-discriminatory manner.
Mayawati directed her party office-bearers in Haryana and Punjab to reorganise the party state units on the lines of UP unit and give more representation to youth by aligning them with the Bahujan mission and movement. She reminded her party men in Punjab about it being the home state of BSP founder Kanshiram.
“The atrocities committed against Dalits in MP, Rajasthan, Gujarat and elsewhere can be checked only when Dalits realise the power of their vote and shun the slave mentality to organise themselves into a political power and form their own government, for which the BSP is the best medium available to them,” said Mayawati.
