Constable killed as criminal's family fires upon police team in UP's Kannauj

A police constable was killed in Kannauj district, Uttar Pradesh, when family members of a suspected criminal opened fire during an arrest attempt. The constable suffered a gunshot wound and later died in Kanpur. The suspect and his son were also injured and taken to a hospital in Kannauj. The suspect had a criminal record with 20 cases against him and there was a non-bailable warrant for his arrest. The police discovered two pistols in the possession of the suspect and his son, as well as a double-barrel rifle during a search.

KANNAUJ: Family members of a suspected criminal opened fire on the police team attempting to arrest him, resulting in the death of a constable who was shot during the encounter in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh, officials reported on Tuesday.
Police constable Sachin Rathi (28) suffered a gunshot wound in the incident that occurred in the Vishungarh police station area.

He was transported to Kanpur for treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries, said superintendent of police (SP) Amit Kumar Anand.
According to the police, Ashok Kumar, also known as Munna Yadav, the suspected criminal, and his son were injured in retaliatory gunfire. They were subsequently taken to a hospital in Kannauj.
The superintendent of police stated that Kumar had a criminal record with 20 cases filed against him, and there was a non-bailable warrant issued for his arrest.
"On Monday, the police received information that Kumar was at his residence. Subsequently, a joint police team from Chhibramau and Vishungarh police stations surrounded the house. Upon reaching the spot in Dharni Dheerpur Nagariya village, Kumar, along with his wife and son, opened fire at the police," said the SP.
Constable Rathi suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and was promptly transported to Kanpur for medical treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries late in the night.

The individual with a history of criminal activities, along with his son, has been transferred to Tirva Medical College in Kannauj, he further stated.
Kumar and his son were found in possession of two pistols, which they used to fire at the police.
Police reported the discovery of a double-barrel rifle during a search at the house.
